Sechelt council voted Oct. 21 to award a contract for construction of a new $3.6-million public works building to CAERUS Construction Limited.
The company was one of 11 that submitted bids on the project, which will be funded with $844,463 from the public works building reserve, approved as part of the 2020 budget, and a long-term loan of about $2.7 million that still needs elector approval through an AAP.
The building, which will house both the public works and parks departments, will be constructed on the district-owned property at Lot L on Dusty Road.
The vote to award the contract was unanimous, although councillors Tom Lamb and Janice Kuester recused themselves to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
“Our public works and parks staff will be thrilled to finally be moving forward on a facility where they can be warm and dry and be able to do the work they’re doing for the community,” said Mayor Darnelda Siegers.
A date for the AAP process to begin is still to be set by council.
