Young people on the Sunshine Coast are being asked to fill out a survey about their transportation needs.

The online survey was announced May 20 by Voice Lab, a group funded by the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization (SCREDO) and tasked with identifying economic development projects that serve people under the age of 40 on the Sunshine Coast.

Voice Lab’s precursor is the now-defunct Voice on the Coast, which was supported by the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation. The online survey is Voice Lab’s first project since being taken over by SCREDO last December.

“This transportation survey is a step towards filling a major gap on the Sunshine Coast,” SCREDO vice chair Maria Hampvent said in a release.

Members of Voice Lab have talked to residents under 40 for the past six months, “to understand their biggest challenges of living and working on the Sunshine Coast. Access to transportation in the evening was identified as a major gap,” said the release, which added that young people reported that “poor transportation services were contributing to a sense of isolation” and causing people to move away.

The release said that survey results will be used to “better understand gaps in the Sunshine Coast transportation system,” with the ultimate goal of determining “the viability of an on-demand transportation service.”

The survey is available at http://bit.ly/voicetransportation and is open to all residents of the Sunshine Coast. It closes June 5.
