Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 5 to March 4:

Break and Enters

• Overnight on Monday, Feb. 25 into the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 26, thieves broke into a business in the 4300 block of Aqua Road, Sechelt. Entry was gained through a window and a chainsaw was stolen.

Stolen Property

• On Feb. 27, a resident in the 5700 block of Mermaid Street, Sechelt, reported a suspicious generator that was found hidden outside the building. Police noted the generator matched the description of a generator that had been stolen a week prior from a nearby site. The generator was seized and has been confirmed as the stolen generator. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, file 2019-1190.

Thefts

• Between Feb. 21 and 25, a suspect stole a kayak from a residence in the 7500 block of Islet Place near Piper Point, Sechelt. The kayak is described as a red and white Pelican and has some owner information on the kayak. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-1171.

• On March 1, a shoplifter was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect was caught on surveillance video concealing a bottle of alcohol in his jacket before walking out without paying for the item. The suspect was recognized by staff and police are attempting to locate him.

Impaired Drivers

• On March 3, a theft by a possible impaired driver was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, after the suspect took a bottle of alcohol off the shelf and walked out without paying. The suspect, who was exhibiting signs of possible impairment, then got into a vehicle and drove away. Police located the vehicle and driver at a nearby residence. During their interaction, police were suspicious the driver was impaired and administered an alcohol screening test. After a fail result, the driver was arrested and taken back to cells to take breath samples. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, an administrative driving prohibition, and released on a promise to appear for court related to charges of theft under $5,000 and operating a motor vehicle while impaired. The file is still under investigation.

• On March 1, a possible impaired driver was reported in the 6000 block of Lighthouse Avenue, Sechelt, after the vehicle was seen swerving all over the road, almost hitting pedestrians and vehicles before parking in the 6100 block of Ripple Way. Police attended and located the driver, who was exhibiting signs of impairment. The driver was given a Standard Field Sobriety Test and failed the physical coordination test. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.

• On March 3, police witnessed a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 101 near Field Road, Sechelt. Police initiated a traffic stop and initially the driver claimed his vehicle had mechanical issues. Upon further investigation, police determined the driver was exhibiting signs of possible impairment and administered a roadside alcohol screening test. After both a “fail” and “warn” result, the driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act.

• Late on March 3, police initiated a traffic stop with a possible impaired driver exiting a business on Teredo Street near Trail Avenue, Sechelt. Police noted the driver exhibiting signs of alcohol consumption and he was given a roadside alcohol screening test. After two “fail” results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Found Property

• On Feb. 26, a change purse that had been found on the Gibsons bypass was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2019-1165.

• On Feb. 27, a bike was found at a building in the 5700 block of Mermaid Street, Sechelt. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference file 2019-1193.

• On March 1, a bike that had been found in the Sechelt duck marsh was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Reference file 2019-1218.
