Three Little Pigs

• On the afternoon of Oct. 9, police attended a traffic complaint on Highway 101 near Leanne Road, Sechelt, after a motorist reported nearly running over three little pigs. The motorist stopped to try to prevent the piglets from causing any other traffic incidents. While police attempted to locate the owner, the piglets appeared to make their own way home after herding themselves into a pen hidden in some bushes at a nearby property. No other reports of wayward piglets were received.

Shoplifting

• On Oct. 9, police attended a shoplifting complaint at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, after the two young suspects were caught in possession of a variety of stolen items. Theft from Vehicle

• Overnight on Oct. 10, a suspect gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 4800 block of Laurel Avenue, Sechelt. The owner advised that the vehicle had been locked, but there were no signs of forced entry, so it is unknown how the suspect accessed the interior. • Overnight on Oct. 11, a suspect gained entry to two unlocked vehicles parked in the 5100 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, and ransacked the glove boxes, but nothing appears to have been stolen.

Police made patrols but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle until later in the evening, when the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle incident in the 6900 block of Sechelt Inlet Road. The driver and passenger, neither of whom sustained any injuries, were able to exit the vehicle on their own, but the vehicle had to be towed from the ditch. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Oct. 13, police witnessed a truck leave a drinking establishment near the intersection of Highway 101 and Sunnycrest Road, Gibsons, that had a passenger in the open bed. • On Oct. 13, a witness reported a possible impaired driver swerving all over the road, at one point hitting a barrier, while heading south on Highway 101 near Orange Road, Roberts Creek. Police located the suspect vehicle in Gibsons and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, who was exhibiting obvious signs of intoxication, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Oct. 15, police witnessed a vehicle travelling west on Highway 101 near Norwest Bay Road, Sechelt, nearly 40 kilometres over the speed limit. Police initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. As the driver was exhibiting signs of impairment, he was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Collision

• On Oct. 13, police attended a two-vehicle incident at the intersection of Payne Road and Reed Road, Gibsons. The first vehicle driver failed to see the stop sign controlling the intersection and drove through, colliding with the second vehicle that had the right of way. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene. The second vehicle driver was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The first driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to obey a stop sign and police have also requested a driver’s licence review.
