After two directors were acclaimed in 2014, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) will see races in all but one of the rural areas. The only incumbent running is Lorne Lewis in Area E.

The candidates for Area A are: Sandy Hegyi, Leonard Lee, and Mike Price.

The only candidate for Area B is Lori Pratt.

The candidates for Area D are: Steve Baker, Cathrine Fuller, Hans Penner, Barbara Hague, and Andreas Tize.

In Area E, Lewis will face Donna McMahon.

In Area F the candidates are: Dave Brackett and Mark Hiltz.

The other local elections taking place on the Sunshine Coast include trustee elections for School District No. 46 and the Islands Trust, as well elections for the five members of the Sechelt Indian Government District’s (SIGD) advisory council.

In School District No. 46, three candidates are running in Area 1, Upper Sunshine Coast: Darren Inkster, who’s also a Sechelt council candidate, Samantha Haines and Kathryn Love.

Acclamations are likely in Area 2, Central Sunshine Coast, where Amanda Amaral, Maria Hampvent, and Tonya Ste. Marie are the only candidates for the three positions.

In Area 3, Lower Sunshine Coast, five candidates are running for three positions: Chris August, Sue Girard, Stacia Leech, Charlene Penner and incumbent Pammila Ruth.

For the Islands Trust, incumbents Kate-Louise Stamford and Dan Rogers representing Gambier and Keats islands appear headed for acclamation.

All five SIGD advisory council positions were filled by acclamation in 2014, but this year there will be a contest in SBL 1, where incumbent Bill Scotland is being challenged by Mary Adele Koyanagi, who’d served as a member at large.  Incumbents Rose Darland, John Miller and Douglas Stewart are all headed for acclamation in their respective areas along with newcomer Robert Werry.

Candidates can choose to withdraw up until 4 p.m. Sept. 21.

Local government election campaigns begin Sept. 22 and voting day is Saturday, Oct. 20.
