Police Report: Pat Jobb painting stolen from Sechelt Hospital

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 17 to 24: On Feb. 21, a suspect stole a painting off a wall at Sechelt Hospital in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The painting by the late artist Pat Jobb is called “Grass Stiff with Frost.

On Feb. 21, a suspect stole a painting off a wall at Sechelt Hospital in the 5500 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The painting by the late artist Pat Jobb is called “Grass Stiff with Frost.” Police are reviewing security video footage in order to identify the suspect. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-1094. 

Patricia Ann Jobb, a Pender Harbour resident who died in 2012 at age 61, was a former journalist and a celebrated Sunshine Coast artist. Her drypoint piece, Tofino Tree, received an Award of Excellence in the 2011 Federation of Canadian Artists exhibition.

Theft

• On Feb. 19, a suspect was caught on surveillance video at a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons, taking an item off the shelf and fleeing the premises without paying. The female suspect, described as Caucasian with red hair, was wearing a black jacket with fur-lined hood, and is believed to have been involved in other recent similar thefts. The file is still under investigation.

• Sometime between Feb. 11 and 20, a suspect drilled a gas tank and stole an unknown amount of gasoline from a vehicle parked in the 16600 block of Backeddy Road, Egmont.

• On Feb. 22, a suspect stole a bike while the owner’s back was turned at a bus shelter on Marine Drive near Jacks Lane, Gibsons. The thief was described as a Caucasian male about five feet 10 inches tall, medium build, with grey hair wearing a white and grey striped waterproof jacket. The bike is a new Cannondale brand, flat back and grey with larger tires, red and white rims, and no brake on the rear wheel. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-1112.

• Sometime since early February, a suspect has gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 6300 block of Marmot Road, Sechelt, and stolen a number of tools, most notably a Rigid brand orange skill saw with a red blade, and a black Honda Goldwing bag containing two pairs of black ski gloves.

Collision

• On Feb. 18, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Mercer Road, Halfmoon Bay, after a vehicle was reported going off road into a ditch. The lone driver, who had managed to exit the vehicle on his own, was assessed by Emergency Health Services and explained that he’d lost control on an icy patch on the road and been affected by the strong glare off the surface. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the matter has been referred to ICBC.

Stolen Vehicle

• On Feb. 18, a vehicle theft was reported from an address in the 600 block of Reed Road, Gibsons. The stolen vehicle is a green mid-90s model Volkswagen Golf and had the BC licence plate HN107R on it. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-1023.

Impaired Driving

• On Feb. 23, police witnessed a vehicle on Gibsons Way near Wyngaert Road, Gibsons, travelling well under the speed limit. Police conducted a traffic stop and noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible impairment from alcohol. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

Found Property

• On Feb. 19, a child’s bike that had been found in the 500 block of Marine Drive, Gibsons, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-1042.

• On Feb. 19, a level found in the 300 block of Burns Road, Gibsons, was turned in. Owner may claim the marked item within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-1044.

• On Feb. 21, a phone was found on a playing field in the 5600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-1092.
