Police Report: Masked thieves break into Marine Drive business by kicking in door

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Feb. 10 to 17:

• On Feb. 13 at around 1:40 a.m., police responded to an alarm at a business in the 400 block of Marine Drive, Gibsons, and found the front door had been pried open but the building was empty. Surveillance video captured two masked suspects kicking the door open and gaining entry. However, they were in the business for mere minutes before fleeing with a small amount of stolen goods. One of the suspects was carrying a distinctive large square-ish orange cooler-type bag. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-913.

Break and Enter

• Early morning on Feb. 16, a suspect gained access inside a business in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt, by partially opening a door and managed to reach in to grab a display stand full of phone charger cables. The suspect took the entire display stand out, which was later found dumped in a nearby alley. Most of the phone chargers were also recovered. Police are reviewing surveillance video. Anyone with any information about this break and enter is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-983.

Theft

• Overnight on Feb. 12, a suspect cut through a chain to steal an electric bike from a residence in the 900 block of Davis Road, Gibsons. The e-bike is described as a Radwagon brand and is orange in colour. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-892.

• Overnight on Feb. 11, a suspect pried open doors on boxes on a community mailbox located in the 1100 block of Gladwin Trail, Roberts Creek. It is unknown how much mail has been stolen. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-915.

• On Feb. 13, a suspect was witnessed stealing art supplies from a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street. The suspect, who is known to police, was captured on surveillance video. The file is still under investigation.

• On Feb. 13, a suspect was witnessed leaving a business in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons, concealing an item under her jacket. Surveillance video confirmed the suspect, described as a red-haired Caucasian female in her late thirties or early forties wearing a puffy navy jacket with fur trim, had hidden a large bottle of alcohol inside her coat before walking out of the store. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-935.

• Overnight on Feb. 17, a suspect stole a full blue recycling bin from in front of a residence in the 6300 block of Gale Avenue North, Sechelt, and appears to have dumped the contents on the road, particularly around Heritage Road, West Sechelt.

• On Feb. 15, two female suspects were caught on surveillance video taking several items from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, and walking out without paying for them. Police are reviewing the video and the file is still under investigation.

Fraud

• On Feb. 15, the owner of a wallet that had been reported lost the previous day, reported that his debit card had been used fraudulently with the tap feature at a business in the 5600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. Police are reviewing surveillance video and the owner has since cancelled all his lost bank cards.

Found property

• On Feb. 13, a first aid kit containing a variety of items was turned in to the RCMP. It was located in a park in Sechelt. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-916.

• On Feb. 11, a bike that had been found at a bus stop on Gibsons Way, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file number 2020-881.

• Early on Feb. 17, a tool was found in the 5600 block of Trail Avenue, Sechelt. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description.

Impaired driving

• On Feb. 14, a possible impaired driver was reported on Mermaid Street near Trail Avenue, Sechelt. Police located the suspect vehicle and driver and noted there was opened alcohol inside the vehicle. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after two fail results, was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The driver’s vehicle was also impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

• On Feb. 15, a possible impaired driver was reported in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. Police located the suspect vehicle on Norwest Bay Road, Sechelt, and noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible alcohol intoxication. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after two fail results was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The vehicle was also impounded for 30 days and the matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
