Mike Shanks will be remembered Saturday at the Sechelt Nation Band Hall starting at 1:30 p.m.

The District of Sechelt will lower the flags on municipal buildings to half-mast on Saturday, Jan. 11 in remembrance of former councillor Mike Shanks.

Shanks died Dec. 2, 2019 at the age of 76.

The lowering of Sechelt’s flags will coincide with a tribute to Shanks that’s scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Sechelt Nation Band Hall.

Shanks was one of the Sunshine Coast’s longest-serving local politicians as well as an active community volunteer.

A statement from the district said, “Mike was always a representative of the people first, treating everyone fairly and without judgment. He did so much for our community and we are all better off for it. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Shanks family and friends.”

The tribute to Mike Shanks is open to all who would like to attend.
