Ferries vehicle goes up in flames

Gibsons

The Gibsons fire department responded to a report of a vehicle fire on GIbsons Way just before 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30.

According to fire Chief Bob Stevens, the driver of the vehicle, a BC Ferries vehicle, pulled up to the intersection near the Blackfish Pub and experienced some kind of mechanical issue.

A tow truck was called and while the vehicle was being serviced, a small fire started, which quickly got out of control.

By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the vehicle was fully involved. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze, while Sunshine Coast RCMP handled traffic control in the area.

Stevens said the vehicle was a total loss, but fortunately there was no injuries.
