After just three days at Stage 2 water restrictions, and following a two-week period at Stage 4, all water users on the Coast are back to Stage 1.

“The recent rains have replenished the lakes to support Stage 1 supply and as per SCRD Bylaw No. 422, Stage 1 remains in effect from May 1 to Sept. 30,” according to a Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) press release.

“The SCRD would like to thank all regional water customers for their diligence in conserving water through this summer’s drought,” said the release.

Outdoor watering with sprinklers, hoses, irrigation systems and other devices is allowed for even addresses between 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Odd addresses can do the same except on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

People hoping to water new lawns beyond those times can now apply for permits, which they couldn’t do when under restrictions at Stage 2 or higher.

Hand-watering trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables is allowed at any time, as is washing vehicles and vessels, sidewalks, windows, fences and other exterior building surfaces. As with Stage 2, people can fill their swimming pools, spas, garden ponds and decorative fountains.

Fines for infractions are $100.
