Burgers are ready to be slung at one of the last major fundraisers for the Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association (SCMHA) youth players before they fly to Beijing next week.

More than 100 tickets were purchased for a sold-out fundraiser at the 101 Brewhouse + Distillery in Gibsons on Thursday, Dec. 6.

And on Sunday, Dec. 9, a public send-off celebration is taking place at the arena in Gibsons. The SCMHA’s Midget A team will play Coquitlam. Raffle tickets, draw prizes and concessions will be on offer.

Seventeen SCMHA players, aged 11 and 12, will head to Beijing on Dec. 13 and return Dec. 19. This is the second half of an exchange program, which last year saw teams from China visit the Coast and participate in the inaugural Canada-China Youth Hockey Invitational Tournament.

The exchange is being overseen by sports consulting firm Group 2022, working in partnership with the SCMHA board.

The SCMHA has secured more than a dozen sponsorships from local companies.
