Coastal Tsunami signed its first player recently, and he's local: forward Ben Walker.

Forward Ben Walker, a former Vancouver North West Hawk and affiliate with the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Delta Ice Hawks is the first player to commit to the PJHL Sunshine Coast Tsunami. His soon to be head coach and general manager of the Tsunami Brad Wingfield made the announcement in a May 22 press release.

“I’m excited to get started. I know the coaches… and Brad has coached me my whole life, so I’m really excited to get going,” said Walker in the statement.

The 6’ 2”, 184lb Walker, who was born in 2006, tallied 13 goals and 30 assists for 43 points in 36 games with the Vancouver-based team last season. In eight games played with Delta, he registered two goals and two assists for four points.

“We are so excited to get Ben locked up. Not only is he local, but he's a player I've known for many years,” Wingfield said in the release. “He comes from a great family and is of the highest character. Look for Ben to be a huge part of the Tsunami, bringing a combination of speed, size, and power along with huge offensive upside to his game.”

The Tsunami is a new PJHL expansion franchise for the coming season with their home ice located in the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. The league is to begin preseason play in August.
