The Suncoast Racquet Club hosted a round robin at Dougall Park last Saturday with background music from the Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival.
The warm sunshine and festive atmosphere helped make the tennis tourney an enjoyable event. The club hoped to encourage local tennis buffs to come out and meet and play with club members. The event was first scheduled to be played two weekends ago, but the inclement weather moved the event forward to share the park with jazz enthusiasts. It was agreed afterwards that it should be held again on the Jazz Festival weekend, as it seemed tennis was very enjoyable with musical accompaniment. Short sets were played and it was good to see new members out enjoying the tennis.
New members Paddy Wales and Ron Kydd shared the prizes with long-time members Donna Stevenson and Laurie Reid.
The club would like to thank Ian Jacques for his excellent photographic coverage of the event and Coast Reporter's continued support to the club. It is greatly appreciated.
A lot of interest has been generated lately with the clearing of the lot for the new location adjacent to Kinnikinnick Elementary School by the Sunshine Coast Arena. The club has decided on the type of building: a solid structure not a bubble like the club used previously. Engineers are presently surveying the site and the designing of the foundations will be underway in the next few weeks.
