Rep players getting prepared

Rep soccer players were getting prepared for the upcoming season this week with a high-level skills camp.

Drew Ferguson, who was in Gibsons last month hosting one of his Fergie's soccer camps for younger players, was back this week putting rep players through the paces.

"The camps we do with the house league and the younger players are awesome, and working with the rep players is a real treat," Ferguson said. "It's a little more high intensity, and I get to really break down their play. If they're doing something wrong, I can emphasize things a bit more and get down to some real coaching."

The camp started on Monday at Cliff Gilker Park.

U15 boys and U17 boys went for two-hour sessions from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. each day, followed by the U15 and U16 girls from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. and wrapping up with the U14 boys, U12 boys and U13 girls in the afternoon.

"When you get complete teams out, you can work on more technical and game skills. We also work on fitness as well," Ferguson said. "The Sunshine Coast is doing very well at all levels, especially the rep levels. Over the years they have taken some great strides. The level of play in rep is right on par with teams in the Lower Mainland. I'm here to continue the players' skill development and hopefully get these players that much further."
