Raiders, Flyers meet in A-division final

There will be a new champion crowned this year in the men's A-division hockey league.The Suncoast Flyers and Inlet Raiders will meet in the championship final starting April 1 after both teams swept their first round series 2-0.The Flyers knocked off last year's champs, the Midway Power/Grasshopper Pub Hitmen, while the Raiders beat the Roberts Creek Rangers.The Flyers opened up their series with a 12-3 pounding of the Hitmen on March 16.Drew Johnson and Mike Eistetter each recorded hat tricks, while Cody Upson, Danny Baker and Carey Rumba each scored a pair of goals. Baker added two assists, Upson added two assists, Rumba added five helpers and Mark Toynbee assisted on four goals.The Hitmen, who played with a limited bench, missing a few regular players due to injury or sickness, got goals from Ryan Martin, Colin Large and Darren Pollock.The two teams hooked up for game two on Saturday night. Although the score was closer, the outcome was the same, as the Flyers won 4-3.Rumba scored a pair, while Baker and Taylor Waters added single. Kyle Vaughn added two assists.Jason Wilson scored twice for the Hitmen, and Nate deBoer added a single.After winning game one 4-3 in overtime March 14, the Raiders finished off the Rangers 4-1 in game two of their series Saturday.Darren Kohuch scored a pair with singles credited to Mike Cote and Chris Young. Jarred Rutley and Bryan Poulsen each added two assists.The championship final is a best-of-five series that starts April 1 at 8:45 p.m. Game two is April 4 at 7 p.m. Game three is April 6 at 8:45 p.m. Game four, if necessary, is April 7 at 7 p.m. with a potential game five set for April 8 at 8:45 p.m.
