Rugby is alive and well in Pender Harbour.
Last Thursday, 42 players, including two female students, took part in a two-hour rugby clinic sponsored by the B.C. Rugby Association.
The PAC at Pender Harbour Secondary School helped sponsor the event. Each player will receive a T-shirt to commemorate the event. Thanks to the PAC, renowned Canadian and international rugby player Gareth Rees ran the junior and senior teams through a series of drills and simulations. Rees also spoke of the camaraderie and spirit of rugby, emphasizing the world-wide advantages for players of the game. The players had a great time and learned a great deal.
The team was able to put their new-found skills to the test right away, as on Friday, the senior squad travelled to North Vancouver for a game against Argyle.
Pender trounced Argyle 38-16.
