The Lighthouse Pub Mariners are the kings of fastpitch for 2005.
The Mariners bested the Inlet Raiders in two games in the best-of-three final this week to reclaim the season championship.
Last Saturday saw the start of the playoffs with the elimination round.
This featured some of the best ball played, with S&K Automotive taking defending champs Inlet Raiders into international rules in the last inning before losing a thriller 4-3.
The second game featured Custom Carpet and Turenne Young Guns. Custom jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead after three innings, only to have Turenne claw back and win in the seventh with a walk off home run.
The third game saw Steve Partridge of Blackfish Pub spin his magic and eliminate Gilligan's Brew Crew for the third consecutive year. The next round featured a real gem with Jim "Weepy" Peers tossing a perfect 21 strikeout no-hitter over Blackfish Pub to advance to the final. The last game saw the Inlet Raiders send Turenne to the sidelines with a convincing win.
The final featured the last two champions, Mariners and Raiders. The first game on Monday saw the Mariners behind the pitching and hitting of Peers win 5-0. The second game saw number two pitcher Chris Bell hold the Inlet bats in check while his team pounded out 13 runs in a 13-3 pasting to reclaim the season championship.
The league would like to thank umpire-in-chief Kerry Eldred and his staff of Chuck Bertrand, Ernie Barnum and Ron Baba for a great year behind the plate and John Gillespie and his grounds crew for keeping the diamonds in top shape.
