Elphi athletes may have fallen a bit short of the podium but still came home with great results from last weekend's provincial high school track and field finals.
The two-day event was held June 2 and 3 at Burnaby's Swangaard Stadium.
Brianna Kane was Elphi's top athlete, finishing fourth in the 400 m with a season's best time of 57.15. Brianna also finished strong in the 200 m, finishing eighth with a personal best time of 26.15.
Tyrell Dempster had a personal best showing, finishing 10th in the hammer throw, while Kim Doerksen finished 12th in the triple jump with a second best ever jump of 9.77 m.
The girls 4x100 relay team of Brianna, Kim, Michaela Kane and Candice Veale finished 13th overall but were only nine-tenths of a second from making it into the finals.
"It was a really close race and tough competition," said Elphi coach Tom Daniels.
Jonathan Garmukewicz and Patrick Swadden also had solid performances in the triple jump, both finishing with personal best times.
Shaun Stephens-Whale rounding out the top results finishing 13th in the 3,000 m.
"It's getting tougher and tougher and the bigger schools are getting stronger," said Daniels. "My phil-osophy is if you can go to the event, be competitive and set personal best performances, you have to come away satisfied knowing you had a good season. I think everyone who went to provincials has those feelings."
