Gye wins national title

Former Sunshine Coast soccer player Will Gye picked up national soccer honours recently. Gye won a gold medal helping the Douglas College Royals to the National Collegiate soccer title.

Former Sunshine Coast soccer player Will Gye picked up national soccer honours recently.

Gye won a gold medal helping the Douglas College Royals to the National Collegiate soccer title.

He played forward and outside midfield and played an integral role in the 2-1 victory over Cap College in the provincial championships held in November.

He scored for Douglas against New Brunswick during the medal round at the national tournament, in which the Royals claimed the national title against Algonquin in a 3-0 shutout.

Before being chosen for the Royals, he played for the Metro Premier Division North Shore Selects as well as West Van Gold. He played soccer with the S.C. Soccer Association and while a student at Elphinstone he was a recipient of the Ryan Dempster athletic award.
