Local motocross rider Kris Peet is looking for big things next weekend in Mission.Peet raced in two events in September, picking up several top 10 finishes. Two solid finishes in his most recent event in Kamloops on Oct. 2 set him up for a race to the finish at the final event in Mission next weekend.Peet started his run of success at the Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC) event in Kelowna. The track was rough and fast and mimicked the practice track here on the Coast, which gave Peet a huge advantage."The rough conditions were a big help to me and I was able to put together a pair of fourth-place finishes to place fourth overall in 250cc intermediate, moving me into second in the points standings," Peet said. "For this round the Grand Prix Pro/Am races were extended to 25 minutes plus one lap. It was a gruelling race. As a result, I was really thankful for all the help I've had from my trainer Pat Cross at Cross-Trainers Fitness."Peet was able to finish the races strongly. A sixth-place overall finish moved him into third in the series standings.Race three in the series was Sept. 18 in Mission. As the series returned to the Lower Mainland, Peet was joined by another local rider Keith Julius. The race marked Julius' debut in the 125cc novice class.More wet weather during the week followed by sunshine on the weekend set up perfect track conditions.Unfortunately Julius' day was cut shortÊwhen a crash sent him home with a wrist injury."I was lucky enough to get out front early in my motos and held an early moto lead in 250cc intermediate," Peet said. "IÊended the day with a pair of fourth-place finishes, enough to place third overall and maintain second place in the points. I had a tough day in the Grand Prix Pro/Am. I finished 11th overall and managed to cling to third place in the points."It was on to Kamloops on Oct. 2 for race four in the series.Peet was again the lone local rider at the event as Julius and Taylor Hunt, another local rider who has been featured in Coast Reporter, stayed at home to recover from injuries. But it was worth the trip for Peet as the racing conditions were excellent."My first 250cc moto was a positive start to the day and I finished second after a charge to the front of the pack," Peet said. "Unfortunately an early race altercation in the second moto left me in last place early in the race. I was able to charge back to fourth, battling for third all the way to the finish. My second/fourth finish was enough to secure third overall and maintain second in the points, but I was disappointed after being in contention for the win.Ê "In the Grand PrixÊPro/Am, however, my results were less than stellar. Poor starts left me to play catch up, and I only managed a mid-pack 11th overall. With one round remaining in the series, I dropped to fourth in the point's standings."Only one round remains in the championship, the finale at Mission Raceway on Oct. 22. Peet currently stands second in the 250cc intermediate and fourth in the Grand Prix Pro/Am."I'm pretty excited about my results this series,Êand a great deal of my success has been the result of great support from my sponsors and my trainer Pat," Peet said."I had a couple of serious crashes this spring which really stifled my early season results. Without Pat's help, I doubt I could have come back from injury so quickly. He's been a major part of my success this year and I couldn't have done it without his help. I also got great support from Wade Fischer at Hi - Per Motorsports. He's kept my bike running great and helped me afford those trips to the Interior. I'd also like to thank Fox Racing for helping me with my protective equipment."
