Outreach volunteer Caron Hawrychuk and Hospice volunteer Kathy Bergman – both with the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society – were at the Pender Harbour Community Club Craft Fair on Dec. 3.
Hawrychuk and Bergman received notes written by people from the community who have lost loved ones. The notes are attached to a Christmas tree during the holidays – they will then be burned in the Lighting of the Memories ceremony at Mission Point Park in Davis Bay on Jan. 1.
“The holiday season really brings a lot of memories up to the forefront,” Bergman said. “I think for a lot of people in the Harbour, they don’t realize that we have a great group of Hospice volunteers. I’m a retired nurse and I’ve been doing Hospice for a long time. There are some great volunteers in our community who are here to support people who are going through a difficult journey. We want to be here to support them.”
