A Halfmoon Bay woman facing murder charges in the death of her husband will likely remain in custody until mid-October.

Karin Fischer, 54, appeared in Sechelt Provincial Court on Sept. 4 via video-link from the Alouette Correctional Centre in Maple Ridge.

Fischer has been in custody since her arrest shortly after Max Fischer, 79, was found dead at the couple’s home on Aug. 21.

Fischer, a German citizen who told the court she’s lived in Canada since 1995, had requested a German interpreter but difficulty with the link between the courtroom, the jail, and the interpreter who’d been patched in by phone meant the brief appearance was conducted mainly in English.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been leading the investigation with assistance from Sunshine Coast RCMP. Fischer’s lawyer, Hollis Lucky, requested an adjournment to Oct. 16 to allow time to review disclosure documents from the Crown, which were still coming in.

It’s expected Fischer will have to remain in custody until after her Oct. 16 court date, after which a show cause hearing may be held in BC Supreme Court to determine if she’s eligible to be released during the rest of the court process.

Fischer has yet to enter a plea to the second-degree murder charge.
