The fourth annual best practices in dealing with the federal government conference took place last Saturday in West Vancouver, bringing together representatives from West Vancouver, Squamish, Lions Bay, Bowen Island, Sechelt, and Powell River.
The annual conference is something initiated by West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country member of Parliament John Weston and intended to assemble local government leaders in order to share information and develop best practices in dealing with the government of Canada. Weston recognizes the importance having such meetings on a regular basis due to the massive and distinctive nature of the area he represents.
On this occasion, conversation dealt with issues relating to the environment and the economy; health and fitness as they influence constituents both in the riding and across Canada; and the promotion of education to students overseas, a source of considerable revenue for some of our local governments.
"This was an invaluable opportunity to dialogue and collaborate with other mayors and councillors in the riding discussing common issues such as environment and economy, infrastructure, and federal boundary redistribution," said Sechelt Coun. Darneda Siegers.
"I have seen time and again the benefits derived from collaboration and communication," added Weston. "Our communities have benefited from investments of the money that has related directly to the ability of our different levels of government to work together, in conjunction with the people we serve. The benefits go beyond federal government investment, of course, as we saw today when the various mayors and councillors shared the benefit of their wisdom and experience."
