Sunshine Coast RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Nov. 4 to 11, 2014:

• A men's green 24-speed mountain bike was found near the Shoppers Drug Mart in Sechelt on Nov. 4. The owner may claim with detailed description, by referencing file 14-7773.

• On Nov. 4, a hit-and-run accident was reported in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt, after a vehicle struck a parked vehicle and then drove away without leaving any information for the damage vehicle's owner.

A witness was able to photograph the offending vehicle and police located the driver who stated he had no idea he'd struck a vehicle, but that he thought had struck a curb. The driver of the issued a violation ticket for failing to stop after a collision with unattended vehicle. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

On Nov. 4, a single-vehicle accident was reported on Highway 101 near Mercer Road in Madeira Park, after a passerby noticed debris across the road and stopped to investigate.

The passerby heard a female yelling for help some distance away in the shrubs and saw that a vehicle had gone off and flipped, causing extensive damage.  Paramedics, the Pender Harbour volunteer fire department and RCMP all attended, and the driver and lone occupant were airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with an unknown extent of injuries.

• On Nov. 7, staff at a business in the 5500 block of Garden Bay Road reported an unknown suspect had tampered with a telephone pole and removed some copper wiring as well. The mischief would have occurred sometime since Oct. 22. While the theft of material is minimal, the costs to repair the pole are significant. Anyone with any information about this incident, or any other metal theft, is asked to contact RCMP, reference file 14-7852.

• Shortly before 11 p.m. on Nov. 7, police observed a vehicle on Gower Point Road in Gibsons, swerving back-and-forth over the centre line.

Police initiated a traffic stop and noted the odour of alcohol coming from the driver. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol shortly before driving and was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. After a fail result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• On Nov. 8, while conducting a sobriety check roadblock on Highway 101 near Monkey Tree Lane, police spoke with a driver exhibiting signs of intoxication.

The driver advised he'd consumed alcohol, and had not had anything to eat all evening. The driver failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• During the evening of Nov. 8, a break and enter was reported at a business in the 5700 block of Teredo Street in Sechelt. The suspect used a rock to break a window and reached inside to grab two shirts. The glass break triggered the alarm, which appears to have scared the suspect away before any more items were taken or further entry into the business was gained.

Police located the stolen items in the alley way and returned them to the business owner. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 14-7886.

• On Nov. 9, police initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 101 near Pell Road in Roberts Creek, after the driver failed to dim the headlights.

The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening, including shortly before driving. The drier was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test and was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• In the early morning hours of Nov. 9, a vandal burned a blue recycling bin in the 5900 block of Compass Lane in Sechelt. The owner recalled hearing a loud bang around 2 a.m., but didn't investigate the noise at the time. The vandal appears to have used a firework to ignite the bin and its contents.

• On Nov. 10, a break and enter was reported at a residence in the 5500 block of Slim Street in Sechelt, after residents heard someone trying to remove a screen off a bedroom window. One resident yelled at the suspect, which scared him off, and another resident observed the suspect walking around the house.

The suspect emitted the odour of alcohol and was dressed in black silk clothing, including a full-face mask. When the suspect saw the resident he stated he was a ninja looking for a cyber chase. The suspect then fled on foot. The male suspect, described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and of medium build, left behind a tool used to pop off the window screen.
