Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 28 to Nov. 4, 2014:
• On Oct. 8, a bike was found in the 700 block of Winn Road in Gibsons.
The bike is a men's black bike with a basket on it. The owner may claim it with a detailed description by referencing file No. 2014-7355 through the Sunshine Coast detachment in Sechelt or by calling RCMP at 604-885-2266.
• Around noon on Oct. 28, a thief gained access to an unlocked residence in the 5500 block of Ocean Avenue in Sechelt, stealing a Toshiba laptop from inside.
The file is still under investigation.
• On Oct. 29, a hit and run accident was reported in a parking lot in the 5500 block of Highway 101.
At around 1:30 p.m. the owner of the damaged vehicle parked and went inside a building for a short period. When the owner returned to the vehicle, he noticed a large dent and yellow paint transfer on the passenger side of the vehicle. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• In the evening of Oct. 30, an off-duty officer came upon a vehicle in the northbound side ditch on Sechelt Inlet Road, just north of Sandy Hook Road. The driver, who was uninjured, advised that he had been having difficulty seeing the road with the heavy rain and on-coming traffic lights. As the driver tried to follow the curve of the road, he went too far to the right and got pulled into the ditch.
Police noted that the vehicle's tires were completely bald. The vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• Late on Oct. 30, police spotted a vehicle that appeared to be evading a police notice in Sechelt. After noting the registered owner information did not match the driver, police pulled the vehicle over to ensure the driver had a valid licence. The driver stated he did not have a driver's licence as it was suspended.
Further investigation revealed the driver was prohibited indefinitely as well as being charged for a motor vehicle infraction. The driver was arrested for driving while prohibited and issued an appearance notice for court. The vehicle was also impounded.
• During the night of Nov. 1 while conducting a road check on Highway 101 in Roberts Creek, police checked a vehicle that smelled strongly of burnt marijuana. Marijuana paraphernalia was seen in plain sight in the passenger side foot well and the driver admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier in the evening. The drug paraphernalia was seized for destruction.
Police are enforcing zero tolerance for drug-impaired driving. The novice driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded.
• On Nov. 1, police attended to a single-vehicle accident in at the intersection of Cemetary Road and Payne Road in Gibsons, after a passerby reported a vehicle in the ditch.
The unoccupied vehicle had a damaged ignition and was towed to an impound yard for further inspection. A short while later, the registered owner called police to report that his vehicle had been stolen. The file is still under investigation.
• In the early morning hours of Nov. 2, police stopped a vehicle during a road check in Roberts Creek, and detected the odour of liquor from the driver.
The driver initially denied consuming alcohol, but when questioned again, admitted to having consumed several drinks that evening. The driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a “warn” reading. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and his driver's licence was seized.
• On Nov. 3, several complaints were made about flooded road conditions in Gibsons due to the heavy rains. One vehicle was reported stuck in the ditch after the driver misjudged a turn due to the rain obstructing his vision.
