Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Aug. 18 to 25: A member observed a vehicle swerving and driving erratically on Highway 101 near Lower Road. The member pulled the vehicle over and noticed obvious signs of driver impairment.

A member observed a vehicle swerving and driving erratically on Highway 101 near Lower Road. The member pulled the vehicle over and noticed obvious signs of driver impairment. The vehicle was towed and the driver was taken to the detachment where impairment was confirmed. The driver was issued an administrative driving prohibition. The file is still under investigation.

Police attended to a two-vehicle incident in the 6100 block of Stockwell Road, where one vehicle ran into another vehicle, which was parked at the side of the road near a driveway entrance. The first vehicle was being driven on the shoulder with two flat tires on the passenger side. The second vehicle sustained some damage and the driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for driving an improperly equipped vehicle.

On Aug. 18, a shoplifter struck a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street. The shoplifter was observed taking several items and leaving the premises without paying. The file is still under investigation.

During a routine vehicle check stop on Highway 101 and B&K logging road, members observed a driver with open alcohol in the vehicle. The driver failed a roadside alcohol screening test, and was taken back to the detachment for further testing. The driver was found to be impaired and charges are pending.

Overnight on Aug. 19 and 20, thieves stole a significant amount of diesel fuel from an address in the area of Clayton Road and Compass Lane.

Between Aug. 8 and 20, suspects broke into a cabin on Thormanby Island by breaking windows and kicking in glass doors. An assortment of items were stolen, including a painting of an eagle, a painting of beaver, a stained glass window, a blue sleeping bag, a brown sleeping bag, an orange and yellow comforter, many kerosene lamps, and a leather bound bird book. Anyone with any infomation is asked to contact police at 604-885-2266 quoting file number 09-5957.

An off-duty police officer witnessed a driver smoking marijuana before getting into a vehicle while on the ferry. An on-duty officer located the vehicle in the 1300 block of Port Mellon Highway. The driver produced a medical licence to possess marihuana, but was issued a 12-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was towed.
