Weekly police report

On Oct. 5, a large cougar was reported running through the loading zone of the B.C. Ferries terminal in Langdale. Staff was able to usher the unaggressive cougar out through a gate and off the property.

Staff was able to usher the unaggressive cougar out through a gate and off the property. RCMP and conservation officers made extensive patrols and neighbourhood enquiries of the nearby area, but were unable to locate the cougar.

Sometime overnight Oct. 4/5, a thief stole a 2.5 metre by 2.5 metre cedar swim platform from Sakinaw Lake. The platform has two 2.5 metre extruded bright blue oblong shaped foam floats on the underside of the platform, sanded, rolled cedar edges and weighs about 160 kilograms. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 10-7920.

Sometime between Oct. 5 and 6, a thief stole a fish finder, netting, chains and a 9.9 HP Mercury motor from a boat parked in the 4800 block of Francis Peninsula Road. The thief cut through a lock and chain to remove the motor.

On Oct. 6, a thief broke in to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street and stole a purse that had been left inside. No other items were taken, and no damage was done to the vehicle.

On Oct. 7, vandals dragged a large log, large rocks and tools from the property onto the driveway in the 1200 block of Chaster Road, effectively blocking access to the residence. The property owners cleaned up the mess without further incidents of mischief.

Sometime between Oct. 6 and 7, vandals struck the men's washroom at Hackett Park, breaking paper dispensers and clogging up plumbing fixtures as well as scribbling graffiti on the walls. Police are reviewing surveillance footage in an attempt to identify the suspects.

Police attended to a possible break and enter in progress when a resident in the 4700 block of Whitaker Road reported a male, dressed in black, entering and leaving a house through a downstairs window. Police located the male a short distance away and determined the male did have the homeowner's permission to be in the house.

On Oct. 9, a vehicle owner who'd left her car unlocked in the 5700 block of Anchor Road discovered a thief rummaging through her vehicle when she returned a few minutes later. The thief stole a purse containing cash, identification and several gift cards before running away. The owner was unable to get a good description of the thief beyond that he was approximately 5-8 tall with a slim build.

On Oct. 11, police responded to a report of an explosion from the roof of a building in the 700 block of Park Road after two passersby heard a loud explosion and saw a "mushroom cloud" coming off the top of the building. A property representative for the building was contacted and reported back that everything on the roof was in safe working order. The "mushroom cloud" was most likely vapour venting from an air-conditioning unit.
