Weekly police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Aug. 10 to 17: A report of a possible impaired driver came in from the 3500 block of Highway 101 after a vehicle was witnessed swerving and crossing the centre line several times.

A report of a possible impaired driver came in from the 3500 block of Highway 101 after a vehicle was witnessed swerving and crossing the centre line several times. The witness provided the licence plate, vehicle description and direction of travel and a police officer located the suspect vehicle a further down the highway. The driver was not intoxicated, but was upset due to an argument he was having with his passenger. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to keep right and for failing to produce a driver's licence.

Sometime overnight Aug. 10 to 11, suspect(s) rifled through several vehicles parked in the 5400 block of Sechelt Inlet Crescent. Most of the vehicles were unlocked, and there were no signs of forced entry on the locked vehicles. Nothing was stolen from any of the vehicles.

On Aug. 11, a bag was stolen after being left behind in a parking lot in the 5500 block of Shorncliffe Avenue. The owner returned to the parking spot as soon as he noticed his black cloth bag was missing, but it was already gone. The bag contained a silver digital camera, blue swim trunks and a Hawaiian print beach towel.

A fender-bender occurred in the5500 block of Highway 101 after anorthbound driver who had looked awaybriefly was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle in front of her. The at-fault driver's vehicle had to be towed due to damage, but the driver was uninjured. Both the driver and passenger of the struck vehicle were taken to St. Mary's Hospital for minor injuries. The at-faultdriver was issued a violation ticket for following too closely.

Overnight Aug. 11 to 12, a thief broke into twovehicles parked in the 800 block of Pleasant Place and stole a small amount of change. Neither vehicle had been locked. No damage or other theft was reported.

A witness reported two motorcycles that had passed him ona double solid line while travelling southbound on Highway 101 near Henry Road. The witness had managed to obtain a licence plate number for one of the motorcycles and agreed to provide a written statement about the traffic offence. The police officer located the two motorcyclists at the Langdale ferry terminaland both riders were issued violation tickets for changing lanes over a solid line.

On Aug. 13, a shopper left her brown Chihuahua in its beige and green carrier on a interior bench while shopping in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street. A security guard was in the process of removing the dog due to noise complaints when a woman professing to be an SPCA approached him volunteer and that she would take the dog to the SPCA.The dog washanded over to the woman, but a call to the SPCA later revealed they had not received any such dog, nor did they have any volunteers with the name that had been given. Police are following up with other animal shelters and reviewing security footage. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 10-6442.

In the early evening ofAug. 14, a thief broke into a vehicle parked on Soames Road. The thief punched the lockto gain entry and stole the vehicle owner's purse and cell phone.

On Aug. 15, thieves stole three mountain bikes from the Chapman Creek park area. Theowner was able to provide police with serial numbers as well as the followingdescriptors: white Giant Rincon mountain bike, redRocky Mountain "Trailways" bike and white andred "Mudd Honey" bike. Allthree bikes had front shocks. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP,reference file 10-6517.

A scooter versus vehicle incident occurred in the intersection atCowrie Street and Inlet Avenueafter ascooterrode intothe crosswalk without slowing down and hit the passenger door ofan eastbound vehicle. Both the vehicle and scooter sustained some damage and the scooter operator was taken to hospital forto be checked over for minor scrapes. No violation ticket was issued.
