Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Sept. 20 to 27: An officer witnessed a driver going more than40 km above the posted speed limit near the Langdale ferry bypass and conducted a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle on Stuart Road.

An officer witnessed a driver going more than40 km above the posted speed limit near the Langdale ferry bypass and conducted a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle on Stuart Road.

The officer detected the smell of alcohol while talking to the driver and the driver admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier. A roadside alcohol-screening test was administered and the driver received a "warn" result. The driver was issued a violation ticket for speeding, anda three-day immediate roadside driving prohibition.

Between Sept. 3 and 19, a thief stole a 2006 EZ Loader boat trailer from the public boat launch in Halfmoon Bay. The tandem axle trailer was in very good condition save for a small crack in the right rear fender.

On Sept. 22, a thief stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4700 block of Whitaker Road. As the wallet containeda social insurance number card, the owner was advised to contact his banks and credit bureaus to advise of the theft. The public is reminded that unless absolutely required, identification such as passports,birth certificates and SIN cards should not be carried in wallets as these pieces of identification are prized by identity thieves.

Overnight on Sept. 22, a thief broke into a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The thief broke through a rear window and reached into the business and managed to extract a silver Toshiba Model R700 laptop.

Sometime in early September a thief stole a highly personalized Goldtone openback five-string banjo off a beach in Sechelt. The banjo has handwritten quotes, artwork and stickers all over the head and fretboard.

A two-vehicle accident occurred near the intersection of Shaw Road and Gibsons Way after a vehicle made a right turn off Shaw into a business parking lot and collided with a vehicle that was exiting the same lot. No serious injuries were sustained, butboth vehicles were heavily damaged and one required towing.The driverentering the parking lotwas issued a violation ticket for making a turn into the incorrect lane.

On Sept. 24, a shoplifter was witnessed by a staff member of a business in the 4700 block of Highway 101 putting a large amount of frozen meat into a bag. The staff member asked the male if he was planning to pay for the items and the male said he was, but when the staff member went behind the counter, the male fled with the goods. The suspect is described as a scruffy looking male in his late 40s to early 50s, with short grey hair, six feet tall with medium build, wearing shorts and a golf shirt. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.

A possible impaired driver was stopped by an officer near North Road and Gibsons Way after the officer witnessed a vehicle with its high beams on and a side tail light out. The Class 7 licenced driver, who appeared intoxicated, was given and faileda roadside alcohol screen test. The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, a violation ticket for driving contrary torestrictions and hervehicle was towed.

Overnight on Sept. 25, a thief gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 800 block of Park Road and stole a Magellan 3055 GPS, iPod and loose change.

Overnight Sept. 26, a thief gained entry intounlocked vehicles in the 1400 block of Bonniebrook Heights Road,1100 block of Gower Point Road,1400 block of Highway 101, the 1600 block of Ocean Beach Esplanade and 1500block of Grandview Road. Nothing was damaged, but the thief stole a wind-up radio/flashlight, CD's, a Magellan Roadmate Model 1440 GPS, twoSwiss Army knives, an LG cell phone and charger, and a Leatherman.
