Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Sept. 24 to Oct. 1:
On Sept. 24, police attended a found bike report in the 4900 block of Hotel Lake Road, Garden Bay. While on scene, a male approached police and advised he was, in fact, the owner of the bike and had placed the bike on the road as an experiment to determine how long it would take for someone to steal or take it away. The bike went home with its owner.?
On Sept. 26, a witness reported a possible impaired driver westbound in the 5800 block of Teredo Street after the vehicle was seen swerving all over the road and speeding. Police located the vehicle stopped on the side of Highway 101 in West Sechelt with the driver apparently asleep inside. Police woke the driver, who advised he had consumed alcohol earlier in the day and realized he couldn't drive anymore. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was issued and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.??
On Sept. 13, a thief stole two kayaks from a residence in the 4900 block of Highway 101, Sechelt. The kayaks are described as one orange Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 and a red fibreglass Wilderness Systems 120, which was a sit-on-top style. Two sets of safety gear and two paddles were also stolen.??
On Sept. 26, police witnessed an erratic driver southbound on Highway 101 near Tyson Road, Sechelt. The vehicle was driving half over the fog line at times and the driver was seen looking down at her lap and not paying attention to the road. Police pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver who advised she had been trying to figure out the light switch on her new vehicle and was in the process of pulling over when she realized she was driving poorly. The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.
On Sept. 26, a motorcycle was found burned out near the end of Menacher Road. Police located the owner, who hadn't realized the bike had been stolen from his property in the 12200 block of Highway 101. As the owner had possession of all the keys, it is believed the thief tampered with the ignition to get it started.?
On Sept. 26, a single vehicle incident occurred on Highway 101 near Stewart Road, Gibsons, after the passenger in the northbound vehicle accidentally dumped hot tea all over the vehicle. The distressed passenger distracted the driver who lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road, colliding with a lamp post head on. The lamp post broke at the base and landed on the rear of the vehicle. Fortunately, neither driver nor passenger sustained any injuries but the vehicle had to be towed. No violation tickets were issued??
During a roadblock on Sept. 26 on Highway 101 near Largo Road, police pulled over a suspected impaired driver after noting the odour of alcohol. The driver, who advised he'd consumed alcohol less than 30 minutes prior to driving, was issued a roadside alcohol screening test which resulted in a 'warn'. The driver, who had received a three-day immediate roadside prohibition in the summer, was issued a seven-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for a week??
On Sept. 27, a hit and run was reported in the 5200 block of Chartwell Road, Sechelt, after a resident heard a crash and believed a vehicle had struck a parked car. Upon arrival, police located a vehicle collided with the front flower bed of a residence but the vehicle was empty. Police then noted the front door of the house was open and located the owners who had been awoken by a commotion inside their house. It was determined one of the vehicle occupants had broken into the house and damaged property before exiting through the rear door. The suspect was seen leaving the scene and was found a short time later on the property, heavily intoxicated and injured. The file is still under investigation.?
On Sept. 28, police, fire and emergency health services attended a report of a kite-boarder in distress in Davis Bay. The male, who was approximately 200 metres from shore, had lost control of his equipment in the inclement weather and was unable to make it back to shore. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched their hovercraft and the Gibsons Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue team. While the hovercraft was en route, a person in a row boat and another power boat came to the kite-boarder's aid and managed to get him to shore, where he was taken to hospital for treatment of hypothermia. ??
On Sept. 28, a break and enter occurred at a residence in the 6100 block of Fairway Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect gained entry by forcing open the front door and rifled through a number of drawers but only stole an old black Compaq laptop computer. ??
On Sept. 28, a thief gained entry through an open side window into a vehicle parked in the Langdale ferry parking lot on the Port Mellon Highway and stole a large number of diesel mechanic's tools as well as documents from the glove box. Some of the tools are engraved with the initials "FC."
