Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for March 13 to March 20
Overnight March 13 a thief smashed a window to gain access to a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Pratt Road and stole a purse and bag containing cash, identification and bank and credit cards. The owner was advised to cancel any financial cards. Police remind the public not to leave valuables or attractive items in their vehicles.
Overnight March 13, a thief broke into two vehicles parked in the 1100 blokc of Sunnyside Road, in one case climbing through an unlocked rear window, and stole a variety of electronics items and a wallet. Stolen were a black 16GB iPod Touch, a purple 8GB iPod Nano, a green and black Fujifilm Finepix XP20 14 Megapixel camera and a black and red wallet.
Overnight March 13, a thief stole a wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Fairview Road. A resident in the 1000 block of Rosamund also reported her unlocked vehicle had been rifled through, but nothing was stolen.
Overnight on March 13, a thief gained entry to an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Sunnyside Road and stole black gloves, a first aid mask, and a black flashlight.
A witness reported to young males possibly impaired by drugs driving in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. An officer located the suspect vehicle and found both males smelling strongly of marihuana. Both males were found in possession of marihuana and related paraphernalia. The males were arrested for possession and released to their parent's custody. The driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded.
On March 17 a break and enter in progress was reported at the General Store in the 5600 block of Mintie Road. The thief gained entry through a side door and made off with alcohol and cigarettes. Patrols were made, but no suspicious vehicles were noted; however, a cab was stopped enroute to Sechelt and a suspect was located inside with the stolen goods. The suspect was arrested and is facing charges for break and enter and possession of stolen property.
On March 17, an possible impaired driver was stopped near Henry Road and Russell Road after an on-duty officer witnessed the vehicle being driven erratically, failing to stop at a stop sign and speeding. The suspect driver exhibited signs of intoxication and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The file is still under investigation.
On March 18, a witness reported a scruffy looking male in his 30's on a bike attempting to siphon gas from vehicles parked in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. Police responded quickly, but the suspect was gone upon arrival and patrols for him were negative. Police did locate two vehicles, which appeared to have been tampered with, and gas had been spilled on the ground nearby. However, there was no reportable damage.
Early on March 17, two male suspects cut a chain to gain access to a works yard in the 900 block of Henry Road. The thieves cut a lock on a work truck and stole 100 copper and brass fittings and three rolls of copper tubing from inside. The thieves also stole scrap copper, using five gallon buckets found on scene to transport the goods off site. Surveillance cameras caught the suspects in action and police are attempting to identify the thieves.
Late on March 19, a vandal threw eggs at houses in the 300 block of Skyline Drive, 300 block of Glassford Road and 600 block of Franklin Road. One of the residents was able to get a brief glimpse of one suspect, described as male with a leashed black dog, running from the scene. Patrols in the area by police were negative.
RCMP are requesting assistance from Halfmoon Bay residents in solving a theft that occurred on March 17 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. An orange and white pelican kayak, and a 6.5-foot Bombardier inflatable raft were stolen off a private dock in the Wescan Road area. RCMP are also requesting assistance from Madeira Park residents in solving a theft believed to of occurred between March 10 and 11. Three navigation lights, which were used as decorations, were stolen from the Madeira Park Government Wharf. The lights are metal, approximately eight inches in height, one light is green, one is red, and one is white in color. Contact Const. Ellerbrok if you have any information.
