Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for this week:
On the evening of Oct. 23, a thief stole Girl Guide cookie money from a public building in the 5800 block of Barnacle Street in Sechelt while the Guides were having a meeting. The money had been in an envelope in a cash box.
On Oct. 24, a single-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 101 near Middle Point Road after a southbound vehicle lost control, slid into the ditch and rolled onto its roof. The driver and lone occupant was able to exit the vehicle on his own, and though uninjured, was taken to hospital to be checked over. Wet road conditions are considered a factor in the accident.
On Oct. 27, a staff member of a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way witnessed a female suspect shoplift a variety of cosmetics and candy. The uncooperative suspect was detained until police arrived. The suspect, who was caught on surveillance attempting to steal the items, was arrested for theft under $5,000.
On Oct. 28, police attended to a single-vehicle collision in the 1400 block of Russell Road in Roberts Creek after a passerby noticed a vehicle in the ditch which had struck a tree head on. The unoccupied vehicle's airbags had been deployed and the doors were locked. Police located the registered owner and driver and were advised that they had come around a corner and lost control. After speaking to both parties, the driver was issued a violation ticket for speed relative to conditions and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
Between Oct. 27 and 28, a vandal damaged a vehicle parked near Hillcrest Road and North Road in Gibsons by kicking the rear driver's side door. The vandal dented the panel, leaving a distinct foot print. No other damage was reported.
On Oct. 28, a witness reported a possible dangerous driver heading eastbound on Highway 101 from Roberts Creek. The suspect vehicle was passing vehicles on the double solid line and speeding. The witness was able to provide a licence plate, driver and vehicle description and police located the suspect vehicle at the Langdale ferry terminal.
The driver admitted to his driving behaviour, advising he had been rushing to catch the ferry. The driver was issued a violation ticket for drive without consideration.
On Oct. 28, a shoplifter stole a large bottle of alcohol from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The male suspect, who'd been caught on surveillance video, later turned himself in to police.
On Oct. 28, a break and enter occurred at a residence in the 500 block of Eaglecrest Drive in Gibsons after the suspect gained entry by removing a sliding door off its track. Several items in the house had been disturbed but the thief appears to have only stolen a box of Native pewter jewelry.
On Oct. 29, a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Highway 101 just past Lockyer Road in Roberts Creek. The driver, who was driving under the speed limit due to the darkness and the rain, struck a female who ran from the south side of the highway to the north side. The driver, whose vehicle was undamaged, stopped to assist the female who sustained minor injuries. The pedestrian advised she had gotten off the bus and thought she had enough time to run across the highway before the vehicle arrived. The pedestrian was taken to hospital for a check up. No violation ticket was issued as the pedestrian was at fault.
On the evening of Oct. 27, a fire was observed in the bushes between the Sechelt library and Clayton's parking lot. The fire consumed most of a mattress found inside the bush. Sechelt fire department responded and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
