Weekly police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for July 9 to 15: Overnight on July 9, a vandal spray painted graffiti on a building in the 700 block of School Road in Gibsons. The suspect also targeted a vehicle that had been parked behind the building.

On July 9, a hit-and-run accident was reported in the 4500 block of Highway 101 in Davis Bay, after someone struck and dented a parked car. A witness left a note for the damaged vehicle owner, but had been unable to obtain the suspect vehicle licence plate.

The suspect vehicle is described as a boxy blue camper van with a white top and a spare tire on the back. The witness advised the driver was trying to turn around and struck the parked vehicle with the spare tire.

On July 10, police attended a motor vehicle collision on the corner of West Reed Road and Highway 101 in Gibsons, after the first vehicle pulled out suddenly in front of a second westbound vehicle, causing the second driver to have to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision.

The second vehicle skidded and swerved ending up in the ditch. One of the passengers of the second vehicle was taken to hospital for assessment and the vehicle was towed.

The driver of the first vehicle, who stayed on-scene, advised she had not seen the vehicle due to the sun shining in her eyes. She was issued a violation ticket for emerging vehicle failing to yield.

Between July 8 and 9, a vandal used white spray paint to paint something resembling an animal on the back window of a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Corlett Road in Gibsons.

On July 10, another incident of vandalism was reported from the 1000 block of Reed Road after a vandal used blue spray paint to spray graffiti on a concrete building. Anyone with any information about these incidents of mischief is asked to contact the Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

On July 11, a witness reported an erratic driver westbound on Highway 101 in Roberts Creek who was swerving back-and-forth, throwing debris out his vehicle and speeding. Police located the vehicle, witnessed similar driving behaviour and initiated a traffic stop.

The male, who was visibly upset, advised he'd received some bad news and just wanted to get home. The male was issued a violation ticket for drive without consideration.

On July 13, during a roadblock on Highway 101 at Monkey Tree Lane in Sechelt, RCMP located two impaired drivers.

In both cases, the male drivers had consumed alcohol in the hour prior to them driving. Each driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a 'warn' reading. The drivers were given a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and their driver's licence's were seized.

Overnight on July 13, a thief stole a boat trailer from the 16100 block of Highway 101 in Ruby Lake. The stolen boat trailer is a 1994 Mastercraft, white with fibre glass fenders with a crack near the driver's side tail light, with BC licence plate 721355.

On July 14, a possible impaired driver was reported in the 7900 block of Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay, after a witness saw an eastbound vehicle clip a tree.

The witness provided a licence plate number and description and police located the suspect vehicle in Sechelt. The driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication, admitted to consuming alcohol an hour prior. The driver was given and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
