Environment Canada has put the Sunshine Coast under a wind warning.

Forecasters say they expect strong southeast winds of 60 to 80 km/h to develop overnight Monday over East Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast as a strong Pacific low approaches the south coast.

Environment Canada is also warning that in the Howe Sound region wind gusts could be in excess of 90 km/h Tuesday morning.

The weather agency said the winds could be strong enough to “toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”

The winds will ease around noon Tuesday as the low moves inland and weakens.

Capilano Highways is reminding people to drive to the conditions and watch for debris on the roads.
