Two weather stations operated by Environment Canada on the Sunshine Coast are back in working order.

On Oct. 22, Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) general manager Remko Rosenboom told Coast Reporter the stations, which the SCRD relies on for trends analyses on local weather and which are operated by Environment Canada, have been fixed. No long-term implications are anticipated.

In September, Rosenboom notified the board about the condition of the weather stations at Port Melllon and the Sechelt airport and directors moved that staff write to Environment Canada urging them to repair the stations as soon as possible.

SCRD makes new hires

Several new hires have been confirmed at the SCRD, which has been dealing with vacancies.

According to a planning quarterly report presented Oct. 10, “a continued high demand for Planning services, steady volume of applications and referrals, and several staff vacancies have impacted progress on several strategic projects.”

CAO Mark Brown confirmed at an Oct. 24 board meeting that Dave Pady has been hired as a planning and development manager.

Other hires include Kyle Doyle, taking on the role of manger of asset management, Jennifer Hill as deputy corporate officer and Colin Ho as financial services manager.

The SCRD is still seeking a Transit and Fleet manager.

According to Elphinstone director Donna McMahon, the board is “very, very close to hiring a new chief administrative officer for the SCRD,” and expects an announcement to be made within two weeks.

Public hearing postponed

A public hearing that was scheduled for Nov. 4 at Roberts Creek Community Hall concerning amendments to the Roberts Creek Official Community Plan and zoning bylaw for a proposed subdivision at Toni Road has been postponed.

Directors voted to postpone the hearing to a later date to be confirmed at the Oct. 10 Board meeting after deciding to postpone voting on the amendments to give the applicant and staff more time to discuss the proposal.
