A request from the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) to contribute something to the SCRD’s 50th anniversary time capsule had Gibsons councillors stumped briefly at their Sept. 5 meeting.
Mayor Wayne Rowe joked that some people in the town might like to see him sealed up in the capsule for the next 50 years, but otherwise he didn’t have any suggestions.
Coun. Jeremy Valeriote, though, hit on the idea of a bottle of the drinking water from the Town’s famous aquifer. “A sample of our untreated aquifer water might be even more meaningful in 50 years,” he said.
Rowe said, “That’s not a bad idea at all,” given the likelihood that untreated municipal water could be a rarity in 50 years.
The SCRD said it hopes to have the time capsule complete and ready for burial in October.
