Vehicle break-ins continue

Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking for the public's help in identifying three male suspects believed responsible for several vehicle break-ins in Gibsons. On July 9 between midnight and 2 a.m.

Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking for the public's help in identifying three male suspects believed responsible for several vehicle break-ins in Gibsons.

On July 9 between midnight and 2 a.m., entry was gained to a gray Ford pickup truck in the Gibsons Park Plaza Mall and the ignition was punched. During the same time period, a older model blue pickup with a camper on it was parked in the Suncoast Motors parking lot. Entry was gained to both the truck and camper, and the ignition was punched.

Three males were seen walking away from the vehicle in the Park Plaza Mall at 1:50 a.m. Police believe that the same three males were involved with the vehicle break-in at Suncoast Motors.

A police officer noticed a vehicle drive by without a licence plate and followed it until it stopped at a address in the 800 block of Gibsons Way. The driver appeared impaired and was given a roadside alcohol screen test that he failed. The male was issued a 24- hour driving suspension, an administrative driving prohibition, his driver's licence was seized and his vehicle towed.

On July 6, a resident in the 5200 block of Highway 101 reported a large group of teens walking along tipping over garbage cans and knocking over signs. Police located the group of teens and found that the mischief damage was minimal and easily cleaned up. However, one underage male was found to be intoxicated and was taken back to cells to sober up. Upon release, the male was issued a violation ticket for possession of liquor by a minor and for being intoxicated in public.

On July 6, a suspect broke into an unlocked building in the 1300 block of Margaret Road and stole some clothing and towels belonging to the sleeping occupants. One of the occupants woke upon hearing the suspect and the suspect, described as a Caucasian male of medium build, quickly fled.

Sometime between July 6 and 7, a thief broke into a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Seaview Lane. The vehicle was not damaged, but a pair of running shoes, some CD's and some documents were stolen.

A report was made about a vehicle passing on the double solid on Highway 101 near Mills Road. The complainant reported a second erratic driver that appeared to associated to the first offending vehicle. Police located and stopped the two suspect vehicles and spoke with the drivers. One of the drivers was issued a violation ticket for passing on a double solid line. The second driver then advised the police officer that the complainant was also driving erratically and had video footage taken by a passenger to prove it. The police officer followed up with the complainant and warned her about her own driving behaviour.

Sometime between July 1 and 8, a thief stole an outboard motor off a boat parked in the 12700 block of Lagoon Road. The motor had the words, The Force - by Mercruzer inscribed on it. Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP reference file 10-5169.

Reports of shots fired came in from the 1200 block of Stewart Road and 300 block of Williamson's Landing Road by neighbours who heard five quick shots in succession. Patrols were made and police discovered the source to be in the 1900 block of Twin Creeks Road where birthday party celebrants had set off fireworks.

Early on July 8, a report of suspicious activity came in from the 5800 block Cowrie Street after a caller heard loud noises and the sounds of branches breaking. Officers made patrols and located several people in the bushes with tents set up. The party was warned about disturbing people with their noise and told to leave the area. Police took down one tent and told the other tent owner to return in the morning to clean up the site.

A shoplifter was caught at a business in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street with a bag full of unpaid for items. The suspect, who has a history of shoplifting from the same business, was arrested for theft under $5,000 then released on conditions not to go to the property or business. A court date for the suspect is pending.
