UPDATE:

Sunshine Coast RCMP say 29-year-old Ronald William Weichler turned himself in on July 7 after police put out a notice naming him as the suspect in an armed robbery at Fong’s Market in Gibsons Landing two days before.

Weichler is alleged to have committed the Fong’s robbery just a day after being released on bail pending a court appearance on earlier charges.

He is also awaiting a November trial date for charges tied to a Dec. 25, 2017 break-in at a home in West Sechelt. RCMP said at the time that the home was burglarized while the family was out having Christmas dinner elsewhere, and they returned to find the house ransacked. Gifts, money, electronics – including two laptops and a cell phone – and several other items were taken. The thief also helped himself to a frozen pizza, chocolates and wine.

When they issued the public notice after the July 5 robbery at Fong’s, RCMP described Weichler as “known to police” and listed a variety of charges he currently faces including auto theft, robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.

Weichler is currently being held in custody awaiting a court appearance on the new charges.
