An investigation is underway following a serious collision involving three cars on the Sunshine Coast Highway in Roberts Creek the morning of Dec. 11.
The crash occurred by Marlene Road just before 9:30 a.m., according to Sunshine Coast RCMP Staff Sgt. Poppy Hallam.
“A black Dodge pickup was travelling southeast on Highway 101 and crossed the centre line striking a blue Nissan Leaf travelling northwest. A black Hyundai Elantra following the Leaf was then struck as a result,” Hallam said.
First responders were called to the scene at 9:23 a.m., including five ground ambulances and two air ambulance helicopters, which landed in Cliff Gilker Park. Both the driver and passenger of the Nissan Leaf suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to a Vancouver hospital, said Hallam. The driver of the Hyundai, who was the lone occupant, suffered minor injuries. So did the driver of the Dodge pickup.
Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
Traffic was diverted from the closed section of Highway down Lower Road before reopening at 12:49 p.m.
Police are asking the public to call if they witnessed anything and have not yet spoken with a police officer: 604-885-2266.
