Forecasters at Environment Canada say the Sunshine Coast is settling into a typical late June - early July weather pattern after a record-setting warm spell last weekend.
New record highs were set on June 24 and 25 when the thermometer hit 30.2 and 31.6 C. The previous record highs were 25.5 C in 1982 and 27.9 in 2015.
Meteorologist Cindy Yu said the difference between the record-setting weather in 2015 and the most recent warm stretch is the strength of the high pressure systems.
“This year we’ve had a couple of smaller ridges building, but compared to 2015 and 2016, our temperatures are cooler on average,” she said.
The outlook through the Canada Day long weekend is fairly typical for this time of year on the Sunshine Coast with a mix of sun and cloud and temperatures in the low to mid 20s, although Canada Day itself is expected to be cloudy and relatively cool.
