Two people were rescued after a small tugboat sank north of Langdale Tuesday afternoon.
The call came into the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Victoria just after 2 p.m. but by then the two people in the water had already been rescued by a nearby vessel and taken ashore.
“There was a small tug that was getting run over by its small tow. It was a scow, not really barge-sized,” said the JRCC spokesperson, who said neither person needed medical attention.
The matter has been turned over to the coast guard’s environmental response team for investigation. “With any vessel sinking, there’s the fuel onboard the vessel,” said the spokesperson, explaining why the response team was called.
