Two face charges in assault on Mountie in Port Alberni

A man and a woman are facing assault charges after an RCMP officer was injured while trying to make an arrest in Port Alberni. RCMP said the officer responded on Saturday at 8:10 p.m.

A man and a woman are facing assault charges after an RCMP officer was injured while trying to make an arrest in Port Alberni.

RCMP said the officer responded on Saturday at 8:10 p.m. to reports of a drunken man acting aggressively, threatening a cab driver and punching a window.

The officer traced a suspect to a residence. When the officer tried to make an arrest, the man and an accompanying woman became aggressive, police said. Other officers arrived and the pair were taken into custody.

The Mountie who attempted the original arrest was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not life-threatening. Another officer was also injured.

Thomas Curtis Martin, 38, of Nanaimo is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Natasha Ebany Unseld-Sandulak, 25, of Port Alberni, is charged with assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.
