Crews have been working to lift a 60-foot (18-metre) wooden tug that sank June 13 while tied to the dock in Gibsons Harbour.
The Canadian Coast Guard said it received a report of the sinking in the late afternoon and a sheen of spilled diesel was observed.
The Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority deployed a 200-foot (61-metre) adsorbent boom around the sunken tug to help contain the spill.
The Coast Guard is now overseeing the pollution mitigation and salvage plan for the tug, working with the owner.
The Coast Guard said the owner has hired contractors to plug the vents in the vessel and salvage the boat.
The work was expected to be completed by late in the day June 15.
