Sunshine Coast RCMP and a traffic analyst team are at the scene of an accident in the Middlepoint area on Highway 101 after a serious accident involving a car and a semi-truck.
According to Sunshine Coast RCMP Sgt. Steve Chubey, the accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Nov. 12.
“A truck pulling a trailer northbound on Highway 101 may have crossed the centre line and the trailer swung out and hit a car, which was travelling southbound,” said Chubey. “The trailer collided with the car, sending the car into the ditch and the trailer, which was loaded with hay, then rolled on top.”
RCMP, paramedics and the Pender Harbour volunteer fire department were all called to the scene.
“Two occupants were in the truck. One was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries, while the second occupant was not injured,” Chubey said. “A 63-year-old Alberta woman, who was the lone occupant in the car, was flown by air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital with undisclosed injuries. She was conscious and speaking to paramedics.”
Traffic has been reduced to single-lane alternating on Highway 101 while the investigation and accident clean-up continues.
