A trailer was destroyed in an explosion on a popular logging road used to access trails in Roberts Creek last Saturday.

There were no witnesses to the explosion, but the blast was loud enough to prompt a call to the RCMP at approximately 9:30 p.m. The Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the call.

A fire was discovered at the site of the explosion on the B&K logging road, said Sunshine Coast RCMP Const. Karen Whitby, and a large pile of debris surrounded the base of the trailer, which was “obliterated.” The debris field was approximately 15 metres.

An exploded butane can was found at the site, but the RCMP have yet to confirm how the incident happened. There are no suspects and no one was injured. A licence plate was also discovered at the scene, and police plan to follow up with the registered owner.
