The Town of Gibsons has announced the appointment of a new chief administrative officer (CAO).

Warren Waycheshen will be stepping into the role, currently held by interim CAO Rick Beauchamp, starting April 1.

Waycheshen is the former CAO of the District of Mackenzie. He also previously held the position of director of finance and human resources. In addition to his 15 years of government experience, Waycheshen is a certified management accountant. An active community member, Waycheshen served as a volunteer with Mackenzie Minor Hockey and the Mackenzie Fire Department.

The move to Gibsons is one that Waycheshen, along with his wife Cindy and their two children, is looking forward to.

"We are excited about the opportunity to live in Gibsons and the amenities it offers a family," said Waycheshen. "It is a beautiful area, and the Town has great character."

He said he is excited about joining the management team at the Town and is looking forward to working with council and staff on the many initiatives underway.

"Mackenzie experienced a severe economic downturn and the most important factor in our recovery was how the people of Mackenzie worked together through that period," he said. "That experience really reinforced the fact that a community's strength is the people who live there and I look forward to helping the community fulfill its goals and visions."

Gibsons Mayor Barry Janyk said, "We welcome Warren and his family. I think he will bring a real shot of energy. He has a great sense of humour and brings a set of skills that are unique. This council looks forward to working with him."
