Toastmasters to hit Pender Harbour

What is the number one fear facing Canadians? Violence, disease, war, rising gas prices, invasion by aliens? While all of these fears may be on our list, at the top, holding rank of first place fear, is public speaking.

What is the number one fear facing Canadians? Violence, disease, war, rising gas prices, invasion by aliens? While all of these fears may be on our list, at the top, holding rank of first place fear, is public speaking.

For some people, the very thought of speaking in front of a group can bring on shaky knees, stomach butterflies and a host of other physical and emotional symptoms. Some folks even avoid social events, life opportunities and future growth potential because of this fear. The good news is that everyone can actually overcome this fear and train butterflies to at least fly in the same direction by joining Toastmasters.

The Sechelt Toastmasters Chapter will be hosting an information evening on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Legion in Madeira Park. These enthusiastic, warm and wonderful individuals will unveil the secret to facing and overcoming fear in a safe, comfortable and supportive environment.

Toastmasters is a non-profit organization, committed to individual development of public speaking and leadership skills. Sechelt Toastmasters Club is offering the Pender Harbour community an exciting, unique forum for individual growth. The benefits to individuals as well as community are far reaching and will prove invaluable over time, as any current member will attest.

The Sechelt Toastmasters Club resumes regular meetings on Monday evenings starting Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Sechelt Public Library community use room. They welcome new members for an exciting 2008/09 program that begins with the timely SpeechCrafting series. This series is of special benefit to anyone involved in politics, and also for members of grassroots organizations who wish to make effective presentations at important public meetings.
