The Conservation Officer Service (COS) is seeking information from the public regarding a family unit of bears that were found dead off a Forest Service Road in the Roberts Creek area.

A member of the public located a family unit of bears down an embankment when they followed the strong smell to the carcasses. Conservation officers attended the site to find a sow black bear and two cubs in an advanced stage of decomposition.

COS believes that the family unit was likely killed by a resident due to conflict and habituation reasons. Officers reviewed Human Wildlife Conflict Reports for the year in an effort to link the bears to an area of high conflict.

Due to a lack of conflict reports, COS is now seeking information from Sunshine Coast residents to link these bears to a potential suspect. All reports to COS are held as confidential information and can be made through the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 1-877-952-7277.
