Terry Fox Run on Sept. 17

Cancer Research

The Terry Fox Run will take place in Gibsons on Sunday, Sept. 17.  Registration will open at 8 a.m. at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre, 700 Park Road. The walk starts at 9 a.m.

There are a variety of distances one can choose from – one, three, five or 10 kilometre routes, and participants are welcome to run, walk, ride bikes or skateboard. Well behaved dogs, on leash, are also welcome. Anyone who would like to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation can do so online or by calling the Gibsons Terry Fox Run organizer, Mary Findlay, at 604-886-1525.

Fox gained recognition as an 18-year-old amputee who decided to run across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He wasn’t able to complete the run before he died; however, Terry Fox memorial runs have since raised more than $750 million for cancer research.
