Jim McLeod and Lisa Kabatoff (TELUS) present a $40,000 cheque to Steve Oka and Beau Sladey (Youth in Transition Program).

TELUS representatives presented a cheque for $40,000 to Sunshine Coast Community Services Society last week, which will provide much-needed funding for the Youth in Transition program.

“This means we can assist and support vulnerable adolescents in navigating barriers and challenges toward independent and healthy living,” said Kelly Foley, Sunshine Coast Community Services manager of communications and partnerships.

Currently, the continuing needs of the community exceed the resources of the program. The funding from TELUS will be used to enhance and expand services to meet these needs. Among the life skills that youth will learn is the ability to obtain and maintain housing, often a challenge due to the lack of suitable housing and the unwillingness of landlords to rent to young tenants.

“We believe our investment in local organizations to create healthier, more sustainable communities is just as critical as our investment in technology,” added Lisa Kabatoff, TELUS senior regional marketing manager. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society than to support our future generations here in Sechelt with this $40,000 gift to the Youth in Transition program, enabling the organization to meet the needs of our most vulnerable community members.”
